The purpose of the UWL TEL Toolkit is to assist staff to incorporate technology-enhanced learning (TEL) into their modules. It supports the University of West London’s CREATE Excellence: Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy 2014-2018.
“We will enhance the experience of our students and staff through the effective and creative harnessing of technology, continuing to invest in new technology, whilst ensuring that we make the most effective use of existing technological solutions.
A key principle will be to ensure that technology is used for good pedagogic purposes, and not merely for its own sake.”
CREATE Excellence: Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy 2014-2018
There are three elements to the UWL TEL Toolkit:
The 3E Framework
A model for staff to consider when incorporating TEL into teaching, learning and assessment activities. The 3E Framework (Enhance-Extend-Empower) is based around a set of illustrative examples that can be used by staff as both a benchmark and for inspiration.
The Blackboard Baseline
A set of requirements that all modules should follow. It is based on the Student Entitlement Declaration in the Student Handbook
Blackboard Good Design Guidelines
A set of standards based on good practice with regard to both web and learning design.
UWL TEL Toolkit was developed by the Institute for Teaching, Innovation and Learning (INSTIL), University of West London (June 2016). See here for Acknowledgements.
